Private Lessons are the best and most effective way to learn how to dance. Learning how to dance is a very individual process because everyone has a unique set of abilities and challenges. No one is born dancing, just like no one is born walking... we all have to learn. Taking a private lesson is a way to learn at a pace customized to your comfort level and your ability. This option is best for anyone who wants to maximize their time spent learning to dance.
Why learn from us?
We offer more than just a private instructor; we offer a private lesson in a private studio. A private studio in our home lets us provide our students with a quality private lesson. We have taught in different ballroom dance studios and one thing most ballroom dance studios have in common is that they employ multiple dance instructors who share floor time and music. This is a nice service to offer, however, this also means that any or all of these instructors could be teaching at any given time. When working with an individual student or a couple, we have a private ballroom almost 300 square feet in size that they will get to learn to dance in with complete privacy. Our students don't have to deal with the distractions of coming and going in an active “stripmall” ballroom studio nor do they have to share music with other students. We find this is a premium service that helps our students get the most out of their training time.
Can you teach yourself to dance?
Sure, but consider this, whether you are copying what you’ve seen others do, or you have a dance video at home you bought online, that video may be able to show you what to do, but it will never be able to tell you what you are inherently good at and what you need to work on; it will never tell you what you are doing wrong or what or how you could be doing something better. This is the value of having a private instructor. An instructor is a guide that will help you grow in ways that you may discover on your own, but much faster and more effective than trial and error.
How do you pick an instructor?
Picking a dance instructor is both an important question and a trivial one at the same time. You need to pick an instructor that can best help you achieve what you want out of social dancing. On the other hand, never limit yourself to only learning from one instructor. Kids in high school aren’t even limited to a single instructor. Everyone has something they are good at and their own strengths and weaknesses. If you think you have something to gain from a teacher, go take a lesson with them. Seek their advice and compare it with your personal goals.
“Every day I count wasted in which there has been no dancing.” — Friedrich Nietzsche, German Philosopher and Critic of Culture (1844-1900)
