Register NOW!!
We offer group classes in special sessions comprised of a series of classes occurring once per week for 6 weeks. We have upcoming Nightclub Sway, West Coast Swing and Argentine Tango series Sunday Afternoons begining on March 7th and ending on April 19th, 2010. These class series will take place at Big Momma's.
Starting at 2pm, we'll take a look at a romantic, slow dance, known as the Nightclub Sway. This dance is born in the nightclubs of California back in the 60's and 70's and is the perfect fit for those nice slow ballads.
Discover this fun slow dance also known as the nightclub two step! Since no new students are admitted after the first class, we'll be able to advance at a pace to challenge both new and experienced dancers alike to help you take your dancing to the next level!
At 3pm, we'll explore West Coast Swing. This class will look at the fundamentals of west coast swing. We'll start at the beginning so that new dancers can be introduced to concepts of rhythm and connection, plus for experienced dancers, it's a great time to hone and even add to your knowledge and skills of your basic technique and patterns. We'll look at 4 of the 7 elementary patterns in west coast swing plus a handful of variations good for both beginner and intermediate dancers.
Over the six weeks of the class, we'll reinforce skills while encouraging growth for all levels of dancers, so that everyone will leave this class with a better understanding of Swing dancing and a greater level of comfort and skill on the dance floor!
Anne and Andy are champion swing dance competitors and instructors who train, compete, and dance regularly around the country so that they can bring you the dance as it is actually danced all around the world.
You'll have a great time plus learn new techniques and skills to look great on the dance floor and enjoy more from social dancing west coast swing!
At 4pm, we'll continue with Argentine Tango. This class will be conducted by Charles Roques, a renowned tango instructor recently relocated to our area from New York City.
Students will learn the Argentine tango that is danced socially in the famous clubs and dance halls of Buenos Aires and is known as “tango de salon.” It is considered by many to be the most elegant and graceful of the tango styles and the high point in the evolution of Argentine tango. You will learn the unique walk of tango, proper tango posture, the basic 6- and 8-count fundamental steps, ochos, turns and pivots and how to lead and follow them. You will learn how to navigate around the dance floor and how to improvise steps instead of repeating fixed patterns. You will also learn how to lead and follow while doing different steps than your partner and not just mirror each other’s steps when on the dance floor. One of the great things about tango is that dancers can continue to refine their skill and technique even after years of dancing. You will leave this series not only with the essential fundamental steps but with exercises and drills and a foundation on which you can continue to learn and add new steps while maintaining and polishing your technique and skill.
At the end of six weeks, you will have the training to walk onto any dance floor and dance with confidence! Register NOW!!
“On no occasion in the life of primitive peoples could the dance be dispensed with. Birth, circumcision, and the consecration of maidens, marriage and death, planting and harvest, the celebration of chieftains, hunting, war and feasts, the changes of the moon and sickness - for all of these the dance is needed.” — Curt Sachs, German Musicologist (1881-1959)
