American Country Western Dancing
These are some examples of the popular country dances done in ballrooms and nightclubs all around the country and abroad:

Two-Step is probably the cornerstone of all country western couples’ dancing. It is a progressive American social dance that is a mix of both a rhythm and smooth dances. The two-step flows back and forth between a smooth easy feel and a clean sharp look of a rhythm dance.

Triple-Two Step is a common counterpart to the two-step in that it is a smooth dance done to country music. It flows around the dance floor with a look and feel that resembles your other smooth ballroom dances.

Polka is an energetic and driving rhythm dance crossing many cultures dating back almost 2 centuries ago. The music is very distinctive and easily recognizable even by people who know nothing of the dance. As a social dance, it is done to many different styles of music, though in the competitive dancing world probably the country western polka is most popular and most common.

“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.” — Agnes de Mille, Dancer and Choreographer (1905-1993)
